PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD (AP) - President Barack Obama says the United States will not take part in the U.N. conference on racism because its organizers insisted on including “hypocritical” allegations against Israel.
Obama says he believes in the United Nations” and wants to be as encouraging as he can. But he says the Geneva conference organizers refused to drop allegations of racism on the part of Israel, and that made it impossible for the U.S. to participate.
Obama spoke Sunday in Trinidad after the end of the Summit of the Americas.
