NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City doctor and her cousin have been sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering the doctor’s estranged husband in front of their 4-year-old daughter.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Dr. Mazoltuv Borukhova (MAHZ’-uhl-tov BOR’-uh-koh-vah) and her cousin, Mikhail Mallayev (MALL’-eh-yev) were sentenced Tuesday.
Prosecutors say they plotted the killing of Borukhova’s husband, orthodontist Daniel Malakov. He was gunned down in a park in front of the couple’s daughter in October 2007.
The two were convicted last month of first-degree murder and other charges.
Prosecutors say Borukhova was distraught over temporarily losing custody. She hired her relative to kill Malakov for about $20,000.
Mallayev also was convicted of weapon possession.
