THE BEST OF THE WEEKEND IN SPORTS

CAPITALS vs. RANGERS, GAME 5

Despite making the right move by switching to Simeon Varlamov, Bruce Boudreau’s Capitals are down 3-1 in the series and face elimination Friday night. The Caps rallied to force Game 7 against the Flyers last year, but Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist has been playing too well to allow that.

NFL DRAFT

We’re including the draft despite the NFL’s horrible decision to move back the start time to 4 p.m. It normally draws huge ratings on a Saturday afternoon, but who wants to sit at home at 10 p.m. Saturday to watch late second-round picks?

NBA PLAYOFFS

Only three of the series were 2-0 heading into Thursday night, meaning there will be plenty of big games this weekend.

YANKEES AT RED SOX

Baseball’s best rivalry lost a bit of its luster when Chien-Ming Wang and his 34.50 ERA was pulled from his scheduled Friday start. Now we’ll never know if the Red Sox could have matched their four consecutive home runs of April 22, 2007.

TWT FIVE ” BEST POTENTIAL NBA FINALS MATCHUPS

1. Cavaliers vs. Lakers — LeBron vs. Kobe. Enough said. David Stern is probably drooling at the prospect.

2. Celtics vs. Lakers — Hard to believe this isn’t No. 1, but a banged-up Celtics team wouldn’t pose much of a threat.

3. Magic vs. Lakers — Noticing a trend? The NBA would love to see the Lakers back in the Finals, and Howard vs. Bynum could be the next great big man rivalry.

4. Cavaliers vs. Rockets — It might not draw huge ratings in the United States, but imagine how many people in China would watch Yao vs. LeBron in the Finals.

5. Heat vs. Lakers — Former Olympic teammates Kobe and Dwyane Wade collide.

HE SAID WHAT?

“He’s going to do something at some point in the game that’s going to make you pause and say, ‘Did he really do that?’ ” - Udonis Haslem on Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade
