Sporting a white pantsuit with a chic scarf tied pirate-style around her head, Maria Cuomo Cole took a bite out of Washington this weekend as one of the distinguished guests at Hudson Restaurant for an event for Street Soccer USA, a nationwide sports league that rehabilitates homeless men, women and children through soccer.

The stylish Mrs. Cole, daughter of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo and wife of designer Kenneth Cole, is known for her charity work on behalf of the homeless and veterans, but like most people during the dog days of August, she had thoughts of her summer holiday dancing through her head. As has been reported, the Obamas will be vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard this month, where the Coles also have a summer place. But don’t expect the neighbors to do any spying or snooping around. “People keep to themselves,” Mrs. Cole says, explaining the allure of the Vineyard, where the Clintons spent their August breaks during the 1990s.

Cheers

The lady spies have learned that Rich Lowry, the boyishly handsome editor of the National Review and frequent panelist on the McLaughlin Group, is off the market.

The 40-year-old conservative polemicist is planning a spring wedding to longtime lady love Vanessa Palo, a Georgetown and Columbia grad who works for Edelman Public Relations in New York.

This is the first time down the aisle for both, we hear. Congratulations from G2.

Credit where due

G2 would like to thank “Real World DC” blogger Martin Mongillo and the Web site vevmo.com for the information about the “MTV: Real World: DC” cast that we included in our July 31st column.

While we’re on the topic of reality television, we would like to update an item that appeared in our July 29 column. We have learned that 44 Blue Productions will not be moving forward with “Washington Divas,” but its “Young Washington” program remains in development.

In other showbiz news, we hear that Fox will hold a Q & A event on Aug. 20 at Fair Oaks Mall with the cast of its new fall comedy “Glee,” a one-hour show created by “Nip/Tuck’s” Ryan Murphy about a high school music teacher who tries to take the school’s glee club to nationals.

“Glee” premiers Sept. 9, and the cast kicks off its nationwide promotional tour Aug. 17.

Happy birthday

We get that the president’s birthday is a big deal, but some are taking things a little too far. Today, Mr. Obama’s big 4-8, Z Burger on Wisconsin Avenue is offering coupons good for 48 free burgers and 48 free milkshakes to the first 48 customers.

We hear Z Burger is throwing a big party during the lunch hour and debuting the “Obama burger.”

Here’s hoping Mr. Obama includes a provision for cholesterol medication in his health care initiative.
