CHICAGO (AP) - A jury has convicted Chicago’s former streets and sanitation commissioner of scheming to put political workers on the city payroll.

Al Sanchez showed no emotion as the verdict was read Monday in federal court. One of his former aides was convicted of perjury.

Sanchez ran the streets and sanitation department under Mayor Richard Daley from 1999 to 2005.

Corruption scandals are nothing new for Chicago. Daley’s former patronage chief is already in prison. Political patronage was rampant in the 21 years Daley’s late father, Richard J. Daley, served as mayor.
