D.C. Council member and former Mayor Marion Barry has been released from a hospital intensive-care unit after a seven-day stay for dehydration and a mild infection.
Mr. Barry, 73, was discharged Monday night from Howard University Hospital, according to a statement from his office. He drove himself to the hospital Oct. 5 because he was not feeling well. Doctors moved him to the ICU to treat him more aggressively, the statement also said.
In February, Mr. Barry, a Democrat, received a kidney from a friend after spending months on dialysis.
Barry spokeswoman Natalie Williams said the illness does not indicate a problem with the transplant and that mild infections are common in kidney transplant patients.
