How did you get started in real estate? Richard Awalt of Awalt Builders Inc. offered me a job paying $4 an hour with a commission of $100 per house sold. My first sale was for $84,900, with a $1 deposit.

How long with the current company? One year

Associations: Home Builders Association of Maryland, National Association of Home Builders, Maryland Association of Realtors

Greatest accomplishment in last 12 months: Closing my old company this year was a stressful period of time, and starting a new one was difficult. It was important to me that I was able to keep my family intact and unified while starting a new company. I was also determined to pull together great individuals to create a new team.

Area of specialty: I believe in aggressive, expansive marketing.

Most memorable house: I had to put 13 cats into a hotel! I worked hard to turn the house into a beautiful home, priced it right and won six contracts in 24 hours, after the property had already been on the market for months with someone else.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: I guarantee a “perfect experience.” The most challenging experience for me was when I was negotiating with another agent who tried to take advantage of the buyers.

Age: 51

Family: Wife, Tracy; one daughter and two sons

Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Baltimore, 1980

Community affiliations: I was a coach to several local baseball teams for years. I have also partnered with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. For every home I sell, I give $125 to them.

Last book read: “Ten Powerful Phrases for Positive People” by Rich DeVos

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus 460 LS

Describe your personal dream home: I live in a very nice home now, and I don’t know if I would want anything more. As long as I am surrounded by my family and friends, I am in my dream home.
