ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The time has come for a congressman or senator to introduce a bill that would require that every new recruit for the military be given the rules of engagement for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The recruits also should be informed about the punishment if they fail to follow these rules.

Every year, thousands of our bravest men and women are being killed or wounded because of these very restrictive rules. We are asking them to fight and win a war while wearing straitjackets. This is unconscionable on the part of our military and government. All new recruits should be fully informed about the rules and duties before being sworn into the military. This may stop the madness so we can win the wars and go home. The rules of engagement are only prolonging the wars.
