ANALYSIS/OPINION:

In her confirmation hearing opening statement, Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan said this country “is the greatest of all countries, because of the freedoms … it offers its people.”

The problem with that statement is, as the Declaration of Independence recognizes, the origin of our freedoms is actually God, not the government. Either Ms. Kagan simply disagrees with the Declaration of Independence or she thinks that the government is God. Both possibilities are worrisome.
