OPINION:
Arizona’s “tough” new immigration law (“Arizona acts as Washington dithers,” Commentary, Wednesday) is being criticized from all directions, but no one on the opposing side has proposed an alternative.
Should Arizona be forced to maintain the unsustainable and often dangerous status quo? Should we allow 12 million or so illegal aliens to remain in our country and still more to enter?
Such a “solution” would be self-defeating. It would send a message that lawbreakers are triumphant in America and our country is so weak it cannot even control its own borders. At least Arizona was bold and courageous enough to try to do something about the immigration problem - and that’s more than our federal government has tried to do.
