How did you get started in real estate? As my third career — and I actually thought I could be a part-time Realtor. That never worked out, and the hours got longer as my real estate business grew.

How long with the current company? Since I entered real estate in 2002; more than eight years.

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: I may not have had any great accomplishments in the past year, but I have tried to provide service to clients and to other agents that is professional and helpful. When I have been involved in the purchase or sale of a home that helps people move in or move on, I believe I have positively impacted their lives. If I receive referrals from them without asking, I assume I made an impact. But, if I can cross paths with them in the supermarket, restaurant or on the street and be happy to see them, it’s a worthy accomplishment.

Area of specialty: I have sold a large number of foreclosures over the past few years, and people are more likely to know me for handling them. I also work with traditional sellers moving up from condos or town homes to single-family homes. Assisting people with conducting a short sale of their home is still a growing percentage of my business, and, as we all age, the other growing portion of my business is seniors.

Most memorable house: Two different experiences. One was a Herndon town house that was priced about right but, at a hot time in the market, received 27 contract offers. The number of offers was memorable, the sellers were thrilled, and it was on the market just a few days. The other experience involved move-up buyers who had a specific neighborhood where they wanted to move. I’ve heard from them many times about how happy they are in their home.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: It was a vacant house that was broken into several times — someone even took the sliding glass door out of the opening in the house to gain access. Some people seemed to be eating, sleeping and drinking in the home. On at least one occasion, the police called me about the people “living” there. Once, an agent entered through the front door while the people ran out the back.

Describe your personal dream house: Definitely on a body of water would be a plus, but one with good-sized “public rooms,” a ground-level workshop for woodworking, and a master bedroom on the main level. It’s fair to say that my next home will be smaller rather than larger than my present one.
