FOXBOROUGH, MASS. (AP) - New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather is sorry for his helmet-on-helmet hit on Todd Heap.

Meriweather picked up a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness in Sunday’s game against the Ravens. On Tuesday, he was fined $50,000 as part of the NFL’s crackdown on dangerous play.

Meriweather said he apologized and that he would do his best to play the way he’s supposed to.

After the game, Heap said “It was one of those hits that shouldn’t happen.”
