THE GADGETS: Apple Inc. released a new slate of iPods this month _ its latest version of the iPod Nano, Touch and Shuffle.

WHAT’S NEW: The Touch gained cameras so you can take photos, shoot HD-quality videos or conduct video chats. The Nano shrank, lost its click-wheel controls and video camera, and gained a touch screen. The Shuffle ($49) regained its circular controls and is now square-shaped.

THE VERDICT: The latest iPods are great, as expected. The Touch ($229-$399) is a great deal if you want an iPhone 4 but don’t want a monthly service contract, and the Nano ($149 or $179) is more portable than ever.
