NEW YORK (AP) - It’s close, but “American Idol” continues to hold off “Dancing With the Stars” to remain prime-time television’s most popular program.

The Nielsen Co. said Fox’s “Idol” drew 22.5 million viewers Wednesday and another 20.3 million for its results show the night after. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” had 20.1 million viewers on Monday and 16.3 million for its results show.

Former “Mad About You” star Paul Reiser’s return to NBC was for a considerably shorter time than his first. After “The Paul Reiser Show” had less than 2.4 million viewers for its second episode last Thursday it was pulled from the schedule, probably for good.

CBS won a relatively close three-way competition with Fox and ABC as the week’s most-watched network.
