OPINION:
Activists supporting illegal entry into the United States want the federal government to stop deportation of those who have broken our laws (“Activists fight immigrant roundups,” Politics, Friday). According to them, those who illegally enter this nation are “victims” of a broken system and deserve to stay.
Liberals believe anyone belonging to a favored group - illegal aliens, for example - is a victim of something. They love to blame the system for an individual’s decision to break our laws. The only system that is broken is our system of border security. The activists would argue that if a foreign national can avoid being detected illegally entering the United States, they should be allowed to stay. Do they want all foreign nationals who illegally enter our country without detection to stay in the country or do they just want to allow the illegals who enter across our southern border to stay? Should, for example, Saudi Arabian, Iranian or Indian nationals be allowed to stay, too, if they enter across our southern border? Or does this only apply to Mexican nationals?
No citizen of a foreign nation, regardless of the proximity of that foreign nation to the United States, has the legal right to enter or remain in the United States. If you change the country name from the “United States” to “Mexico” in that statement, I’m sure Mexican President Felipe Calderon would agree.
