A 15-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 92-year-old Forestville woman who lived across the street from him.

Prince George’s County police said William Roger Fitts admitted during questioning that he beat and stabbed Thelma Elaine Steele, of the 2900 block of East Avenue, when he went inside her Forestville home Monday to rob her. The teen was also charged with robbery.

A family member called police Monday evening concerned that Ms. Steele could not be reached. Police found her dead in her home when they went to her residence to check on her.

“The victim knew the suspect from the neighborhood,” police spokesman Cpl. Henry Tippett said. “Apparently, he just went and knocked on the door and because she recognized him from the neighborhood, let him in.”

Officers said they recovered the knife used to stab Ms. Steele when searching the teen’s home, Cpl. Tippett said.
