A Reston man was charged with attempted murder for shooting at another man after an altercation while the two were pumping gas in Germantown, Montgomery County police said Monday.

Police arrested Dmytro Solomatin, 26, for attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment when he opened fire on a car at the Freestate gas station at 20650 Frederick Road at about 5:53 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Mr. Solomatin and a 38-year-old man began to argue at the gas station, and the argument escalated into a fight.

Mr. Solomatin took a handgun from his car and shot once at the other man. The shot missed the victim but instead hit the other man’s car where the man’s fiance was sitting.

No one was injured and Mr. Solomatin fled the scene but later turned himself in to police.

He was being held Monday on $750,000 bond.
