MILWAUKEE (AP) - A person familiar with negotiations tells The Associated Press second baseman Rickie Weeks and the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a $38.5 million, four-year contract that contains a 2015 option which could increase the value to $50 million.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the deal had not yet been announced.

The option could become guaranteed under certain conditions. Weeks’ health has been a concern for the oft-injured hitter, who missed an average of 67 games from 2006-09.

Weeks hit .269 last year with 29 homers, 83 RBIs and 112 runs in 160 games as the Brewers‘ primary leadoff hitter.
