PORTLAND, ORE. (AP) - Midfielder Sal Zizzo has been acquired by Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers from Chivas USA for allocation money.

The 23-year-old from San Diego joined Chivas last July from Hannover in the German Bundesliga, where he made just eight appearances.

He has played once for the U.S. national team, in an August 2007 exhibition at Sweden, and was part of the American team at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. He left UCLA after his sophomore season.

The deal was announced Wednesday.
