GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police are identifying an 81-year-old Gaithersburg man fatally hit by a MARC train.

Police spokesman Cpl. Dan Friz says James Thomas Clemons was hurrying across the train tracks Friday morning to try to board the train when he was struck. Three Washington-bound trains were halted for about two and a half hours after Clemons were hit, but Friz says they began moving about 10:30 a.m.

A portion of South Summit Avenue near the station that was blocked has also reopened to traffic.
