ANALYSIS/OPINION:

President Obama has no control over Social Security payments to retirees, period (“Obama: Without deal, no guarantee of Social Security checks Aug. 3,” Web, Tuesday).

Social Security does not borrow one red cent to make its payments, so it has absolutely nothing to do with the debt-ceiling debate. Social Security also collects enough tax to pay current benefits, so cash flow is not an issue, either.

Mr. Obama should be ashamed of himself for distorting these facts and scaring retirees. These are real people with real feelings, and his remarks likely terrorized many of them.
