A Gaithersburg man pulled from a lake on July 4 after he waded in to retrieve a radio-controlled boat has died, Montgomery County police said Thursday.

Brian Lamont Walton, 38, of the 700 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg attempted to retrieve the disabled boat in Gunners Lake in Germantown by wading about 30 feet offshore.

Police said they are still investigating why Mr. Lamont had trouble returning to shore and that he yelled for help, then disappeared below the water’s surface at about 6:50 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Lamont was brought back to shore by a friend who administered CPR with the help of a female bystander until county police and rescue personnel arrived.

Mr. Lamont was taken to a nearby hospital where he died Wednesday.
