Virginia’s Fairfax County, identified by Forbes magazine as the second-wealthiest county in the nation, is a natural location for upscale homes. Forbes reports that the county’s median household income was $106,785 based on 2008 census data, putting the median income just behind that in neighboring Loudoun County.

While much of Fairfax County’s land already has been developed, NV Homes has found land near Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna to build Hunting Crest. The 52 estates in Hunting Crest include sites of 1½ to 2 acres set on cul-de-sac streets. The community backs to Lake Fairfax Park and also is close to Reston Town Center and Tysons Corner.

The four home styles available at Hunting Crest range from 3,790 to 5,618 square feet, with optional expansions. Base prices range from $1,324,990 to $1,489,990, with a $75-per-month homeowners association fee.

Standard features on these estate homes include three sides of brick, with a brick stoop, a curved front walk, a two-car side-entry garage and professionally designed landscaping.

Inside, all three levels have 9-foot ceilings; an oak front staircase; and hardwood flooring in the foyer, living room, dining room, study, kitchen and breakfast area. The homes have crown, chair-rail and shadow-box molding and a ceiling medallion in the formal dining room, along with two-panel interior doors, fluted decorative columns and tray ceilings. Each kitchen has 42-inch raised-panel maple cabinets, granite counters, stainless steel appliances and recessed lighting.

Buyers can choose between hardwood and ceramic tile flooring in the powder room. The full baths have ceramic tile flooring and wall tiles, and the master bath also has granite counters, a soaking tub and a glass-enclosed shower with dual shower heads and a seat. The homes have a gas fireplace in the family room, dual-zone air conditioning and heating and structured wiring and are Energy Star qualified.

Buyers can expand their homes at Hunting Crest with a sunroom, a conservatory, a first-floor bedroom, a morning room and a family studio for homework and other activities. Lower levels can be finished with a media room, a recreation room, a wet bar, an office and extra baths. Extra bedrooms and baths also are an option above any first-floor additions. Buyers also can expand to a three-car garage and/or add a second two-car garage.

The Mount Vernon model, the largest, with 5,618 square feet, is base-priced at $1,489,990. This home features a front portico with columns leading into a two-story foyer. Beyond the foyer is the grand reception hall, a two-story space that includes a split staircase to the upper level.

Columns flank the entrances to the formal living room and formal dining room on either side of the foyer. The dining room includes a tray ceiling.

The two-story family room has a coffered ceiling, a fireplace and a built-in entertainment center, with columns defining the entrance into the hexagonal breakfast room. The adjacent kitchen includes a walk-in pantry, a center island and a butler’s pantry.

The main level also has a hall with a tray ceiling leading into the powder room and a study. Near the garage are a laundry room and a mudroom with a bench and a closet.

Upstairs, a gallery overlooks the reception hall, foyer and family room. Double doors open into the master suite, which has a tray ceiling in the bedroom and a separate, hexagonal sitting room. The master bath has a soaking tub, a separate shower with a seat, two vanities with sinks, a linen closet, a dressing room with a built-in three-way mirror and two walk-in closets.

Buyers who choose a first-floor morning-room addition can add a private covered porch off the master-suite sitting room.

Each of the three additional bedrooms on this level has a walk-in closet and a private full bath.
