AMES, IOWA (AP) - Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg says forward Eric McKnight will transfer.

McKnight played sparingly as a freshman for the Cyclones this season. McKnight, a native of Raleigh, N.C., averaged just 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds in 14 games.

Hoiberg said Monday that he and McKnight agreed that McKnight’s best chance for more playing time will come at another school. He was granted a release from his scholarship.

Iowa State already has a pair of standout young forwards, Melvin Ejim and Calvin Godfrey, who have three years of eligibility left.

Transfer post players Royce White and Anthony Booker will also be eligible next season.
