A dramatic atrium, a sauna and an exercise room are among the highlights of a contemporary home on the market in Bowie, Md. A ton of space can be found inside as well as outside, making it an ideal home to entertain in year round.

Located in the area’s well-known gated Woodmore community where residents enjoy amenities such as a golf course and a country club, the home sits on more than an acre of land. The home, at 2602 Brookeville Landing, was built in 1987 and is on the market for $1,200,000.

The owners paid special attention to the outside of the brick house, which gives it plenty of curb appeal. Wide walkways mix with a richly manicured lawn and professional landscaping. There’s plenty of parking for the owners and their guests thanks to an attached, side-entry three-car garage, long driveway and parking pad.

An elegant double-door entry opens directly into the home. Hardwood floors gleam throughout the house and plenty of windows keep the home’s rooms drenched in sun.

One of the unique features of this home is a stunning atrium in the middle of the main level that leads down to the lower level. This atrium is made even more impressive by a soaring brick wall that begins with the lower-level fireplace and extends to all levels.

The atrium area also provides a great flow to the home as all of the rooms can be accessed from this area. The dining room is elegantly appointed with a large chandelier and the formal living room is spacious and features a vaulted ceiling.

Blurring the line between indoor and outdoor space, the living room has a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows and is painted a warm shade of sky blue.

There are two fireplaces in the home, one in the family room and one in the lower-level recreation room. The cozy family room is a good place to unwind after a long day and also has high ceilings and is professionally painted in a neutral earth tone. This room can be closed off from the foyer with a wall of glass windows and doors.

A huge island with a cooktop and food preparation space is the centerpiece of the kitchen. There’s a pass-through over the sink that looks into the family room and a window-filled breakfast bay for dining. Black appliances in this extra-large kitchen include a double oven, a dishwasher and a side-by-side refrigerator paneled in wood that matches the cabinetry.

There’s also a smaller fully-equipped kitchen on the lower level with a breakfast bar and walls of cabinetry.

Additional main-level features include an in-law suite with a full bath and a private master suite with a full bath and a wall of windows overlooking the grounds. The remaining three bedrooms are on the lower level. Two share an adjoining buddy bath and the other has its own bath.

The lower level is full of activity with a generously-sized exercise room that also doubles as a billiards room. However, the main attraction of this level is the spa retreat area featuring a hot tub and a full sauna.

There’s also a library with windows overlooking the recreation room on this level that is similar to the family room but a bit more laid back in style. It also has a cozy fireplace and a glass wall with a sliding door.

With 1.34 acres there’s plenty of room to roam outdoors. There’s a patio and the owners have also found several outdoor spaces to strategically place benches and picnic tables, giving it a parklike setting.
