Section 5 of the Village of Chevy Chase, incorporated in 1922, is a quaint subdivision within Chevy Chase, Md., that consists of Thornapple, Underwood and Dalkeith streets and Williams Lane, bordered by Connecticut Avenue and Brookville Road.

This section has its own managers to oversee the rules and regulations of the community and organize community gatherings and meetings. Residents can walk to a grocery store, a pharmacy, a barber and a diner and also quickly reach the shops and restaurants of Friendship Heights, Bethesda and downtown Washington.

Within this tightly knit community, the home at 3715 Williams Lane is on the market for $2,495,000. Built in 1948, this home underwent a major expansion and renovation in 2006 and now encompasses more than 9,500 finished square feet on a homesite of one-third acre. The home has four finished levels, with an elevator, security system and high-tech wiring, including a 12-zone audio system.

A covered front porch with graceful arches provides a perfect place to welcome guests or relax on a spring day to admire the landscaped front yard. Inside, the main level has an open floor plan with 10-foot ceilings, long swaths of new hardwood flooring, recessed lighting and decorative columns to define spaces. Crown molding and wide trim around the windows and doors add elegance to the rooms. Residents and guests can stand in the foyer and see straight down the hallway through the family room to the main-level deck.

To the left of the foyer, French doors open into the library, which has a stone fireplace flanked by windows and a dramatic picture window with a transom framing a view of the front garden.

Columns frame the entrance to the dining room, which has a tray ceiling and a bay window. Adjacent to the dining room is an expansive living room with a tray ceiling and a distinctive stone wall with a fireplace. The living room includes a wide bay with multiple windows with transoms.

Across from the living room are a powder room and a walk-in closet. The centrally located staircase to the upper and lower levels includes several windows. Opposite the stairs is an elevator that reaches all four levels.

The back of the main level features an open kitchen, breakfast area and family room with walls of windows and French doors to the deck. The kitchen includes a butler’s pantry and a walk-in pantry, along with a center-island cooktop and a second island with a breakfast bar. The spacious room includes architectural columns, stainless steel appliances, granite counters and an abundance of cabinets.

The main level also includes a bedroom with windows on two sides, a walk-in closet and a full bath.

Upstairs, the master suite covers almost half of the second level. The bedroom has a vaulted ceiling with a wide bay with multiple windows and transoms. A three-sided gas fireplace warms the bedroom and the separate sitting room, which has a wall of windows and French doors opening onto a wide balcony. The suite also has two walk-in closets, a wet bar and a marble master bath with a whirlpool tub set under a bay window, a glass-enclosed shower, two rooms with a commode in each, and two vanities.

The upper level includes three more bedrooms, each with a walk-in closet and a private full bath. The third bedroom is particularly expansive and includes angled walls with multiple windows.

In addition, this level has a laundry room with granite counters, a window and multiple built-in cabinets and shelves.

The finished attic level features an enormous recreation room with four skylights, a full bath and a bedroom with a 10-foot ceiling.

The finished lower level includes a bonus room with a bay window, a full bath and a hobby or craft room. In addition, this level has a media room, a powder room and several storage rooms. Residents can access both the two-car garage and the two-car carport from the lower level.
