NEW YORK (AP) - A songwriter’s son is due back in court as he fights charges of murdering his swimsuit designer girlfriend in a posh New York City hotel.

Nicholas Brooks‘ father is “You Light Up My Life” songwriter Joseph Brooks. The younger Brooks has a court date Tuesday in Manhattan.

The 25-year-old has pleaded not guilty in the December death of 33-year-old Sylvie Cachay (cash-AY’), whose body was found in a bathtub at the Soho House club and hotel. The two had been dating, but their relationship was faltering.

Brooks has said he left Cachay sleeping. His lawyer has said he may contest findings she died of strangulation and drowning.

A bottle of prescription drugs was found in the couple’s room. Medical examiners have declined to say whether any drugs were found in Cachay’s system.
