NEW YORK (AP) - A classical pianist turned real estate agent says New York police roughed her up, caused a concussion and wrongfully arrested her after she was thrown out of the Metropolitan Opera in a ticket mix-up.

Aviva Aronovich sued the city and police officers Wednesday over the March 2010 incident. The police department says she became belligerent and was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Aronovich’s lawsuit says she had a ticket to the premiere of “Hamlet” but was ushered out after she handed her ticket to a friend and couldn’t immediately show it. She says she was leaving when a police officer pulled her down some steps, and she hit her head. The NYPD says the officer was exonerated of internal charges of abuse.

The suit says she was arrested on charges later dismissed.

The opera had no immediate comment.
