A misdemeanor assault charge against Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was dismissed Tuesday in Fairfax County court under a statute that allows for such a dismissal if the victim acknowledges he received satisfaction for the injury.

Haynesworth was accused of punching a man during a roadside confrontation that allegedly occurred on the Fairfax County Parkway on Feb. 2.

Haynesworth’s lawyer, Steven A. Merril, declined to provide details of the settlement.

“The nature of this case was perfect for this statute,” Merril said. “In an assault case with only two parties involved, if both of those people are satisfied, there’s no reason for the court to hear the case.”

This does not mark the end of Haynesworth’s legal woes, though.

He is scheduled to be tried on one count of misdemeanor sexual abuse in D.C. Superior court on July 11. That charge results from an accusation that a waitress at the W Hotel’s rooftop lounge levied in February.
