A 78-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a Mitchellville road, Prince George’s County police said Tuesday.

Willie Randolph Prince, of the 3500 block of Burleigh Drive in Mitchellville, had helped move a disabled vehicle out of the way of traffic Monday night when he was hit by oncoming traffic in the 3500 block of Enterprise Road.

“When he left the vehicle to go back across the street he was struck,” police spokesman Cpl. Larry Johnson said.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 2004 Toyota 4Runner, remained on the scene and was “cooperating” with police. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash but police are still investigating speed as a possible factor, Cpl. Johnson said.
