Maryland will honor former basketball coach Gary Williams with a court-naming ceremony Dec. 9 at Comcast Center.

School president Wallace Loh first mentioned plans to name the court in honor of Williams in May when the longtime coach retired.

A school spokesman said details for the ceremony are still to be determined.

The ceremony will not be held in conjunction with a game. Maryland, under new coach Mark Turgeon, will play Mount St. Mary’s on Dec. 7 and Florida International on Dec. 14.

Williams was 461-252 in 22 seasons at Maryland and won the program’s lone national championship in 2002. He led the Terrapins to two Final Fours (2001 and 2002), one ACC tournament title (2004) and 14 NCAA tournament appearances.
