ROME (AP) - The Italian Players’ Association says it is “moderately optimistic” that a Serie A strike can end.

The players’ strike postponed the scheduled start of the Serie A last weekend, and both sides want to reach an agreement before the second round begins on Sept. 9.

The players’ association said Friday it has received a proposal from the clubs for a temporary collective contract and the papers are being reviewed.

As outlined by Serie A president Maurizio Beretta on Thursday, the clubs’ proposal would stipulate that the sides reach a deal over the next 30 days on the last remaining conflict _ a clause concerning the rights of players to train with the first team.
