TORONTO (AP) - Mike Danton says he sees life differently after five years behind bars.

The former NHL player, jailed for conspiracy to commit murder, tells The Canadian Press he feels lucky just to be playing hockey these days.

Danton made headlines this week for rushing to the aid of a teammate during a game in Sweden. Danton signed with a third-tier Swedish club in the summer after his parole ended, lifting restrictions on his travel.

The 30-year-old Canadian says he’d love to play in the NHL again, but knows that’s not likely. Danton played college hockey in Canada for two years after his release from prison.
