Former Big Eight Commissioner Chuck Neinas says he’s been contacted by the Big 12 about possibly being the conferences interim commissioner, and that he told the league’s leaders he was interested.

The Big 12 presidents were scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss ways to stabilize the league. Apparently, a change of leadership is part of that plan.

Neinas told The Associated Press on Thursday morning that he had not yet been retained. He says: “If that happened, it would happen at the end of the day.”

The Kansas City Star, citing two sources with knowledge of the decision, reported Wednesday night that current Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe was working on an agreement to leave his position and that an announcement of Beebe’s departure was expected Thursday.
