A College Park man accused of fatally striking the operator of a motor scooter with his car has been released on bond, Montgomery County police said Friday.
Michael Charles Dalton Jr., 22, of the 10200 block of Baltimore Avenue was released on $15,000 bond after a hearing that lowered his initial bond from $1 million.
Mr. Dalton was charged with failure to immediately stop vehicle at scene of accident involving death, failure to immediately return and remain at scene of accident involving death, and failure of vehicle driver in accident to report death to nearest police in connection with the accident in Rockville early Thursday.
Police said Mr. Dalton, driving a 1997 Buick, struck Roberto Nassar, 30, of the unit block of South Frederick Road, from behind at about 1:25 a.m. while Mr. Nassar was traveling north on Rockville Pike near Edmonston Road on a motor scooter.
Police said they saw the Buick traveling north on Rockville Pike with a scooter on its hood and stopped the vehicle before learning about the accident.
Mr. Dalton’s next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21.
