House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was very upset that the Republicans did not plan an official response to the president’s joint-session speech (“Football tonight! Also, Obama,” Comment & Analysis, Thursday). She seems to have forgotten how President Obama reacts to opposition comments.

When Republicans met with him in 2009 at the White House about pending legislation and offered objections and suggestions, Mr. Obama dismissed them out of hand with a two-word response, “I won.” The president’s speech last night was a reminder to the American people of that sad fact. The nation weeps.
