Whether you are looking for a home surrounded by open space and recreational amenities or you want to live closer to the beach, the new Toll Bros. community of Woodlands at St. Georges in Bear, Del., may meet your needs. Twenty minutes from Wilmington and 90 minutes from the Delaware beaches, the Woodlands at St. Georges offers residents a resortlike lifestyle.

The 289 estate homes of Woodlands at St. George, part of the Red Lion Chase community, will be surrounded by 200 acres of open space and woods. The community includes a state-of-the-art clubhouse with a swimming pool, a fitness center, basketball and tennis courts and a tot lot.

Golfers have their pick of numerous nearby private, semiprivate and public golf courses, and boaters will enjoy the nearby Summit Marina. Multiple parks also are close by for swimming, fishing, hiking and ice-skating. Day trips to the beach or into Wilmington, Baltimore or Philadelphia are a breeze from this centrally located community, which also is close to the Newark, Del., train station and the Amtrak station in Wilmington.

The single-family homes at the Woodlands at St. Georges, base-priced from $424,995 to $558,995, have 2,800 to 4,000 finished square feet. Homeowner association dues at the community are $153 per month.

Standard features include exteriors of brick, stone, stucco and vinyl siding; a two- or three-car garage; upgraded landscaping, including sodded front and side yards; and a grand two-story foyer. The homes have 9-foot ceilings on the main level; archways with fluted trim and corner medallions; a direct-vent fireplace; crown molding; and hardwood flooring in the foyer, powder room, kitchen and breakfast area.

Each kitchen has 42-inch cabinets and crown molding, with granite counters, recessed lighting and a ceramic tile backsplash. The master bath has a soaking tub and separate shower, and all of the full baths have ceramic tile flooring. Each home has two or three zones of high-efficiency natural gas heat and central air conditioning.

Buyers can customize their homes with skylights, additional fireplaces, cathedral ceilings, a wet bar, oak stairs, garage storage space, a greenhouse, a sunroom, room extensions, and coffered and tray ceilings.

The Duke model, with 3,700 finished square feet, is base-priced from $498,995 and has a choice of four facades. This model has a two-story foyer with a curving staircase to the upper level and a two-story family room with a curved balcony overlook on the second level.

On either side of the foyer are the formal living room and the formal dining room. The main level has a study in one corner with an adjacent powder room and two nearby closets. The second entrance from the garage is adjacent to the laundry room and includes a walk-in closet.

Residents of this home are likely to spend most of their time in the two-story family room, which has windows on either side of the fireplace. The family room opens to a breakfast area with a glass door to the backyard. The breakfast area is open to the expansive kitchen, which has an oversized center island and a room-sized pantry. Buyers can add skylights to the kitchen and a side door into the laundry room.

Upstairs, the master suite has a double-door entrance into the bedroom, which has windows on three sides. Columns frame the entrance to the master den, which has a double window. Two steps lead down from the master bedroom into the dressing area, which has an oversized walk-in closet and double doors leading into the luxurious master bath. The master bath has a cathedral ceiling, two vanities, a soaking tub and a separate shower.

The upper level has three additional bedrooms, one with a private bath and two that share a hall bath.
