An 81-year-old McLean woman was killed on Tuesday when a car rolled into her.

According to a statement from Fairfax County police, Beverly Sargent of Kirby Road was in her car in her driveway, about to drive to a local service station to drop off her car just before 11 a.m. Tuesday. She had asked another driver to follow her to the service station and drive her home.

She walked behind her car to see if the other driver, an 86-year-old man driving a 2002 Toyota Camry, was behind her, police said. The man started his car and put it into gear. It rolled forward and the man could not stop the car before it hit Ms. Sargent.

Ms. Sargent was taken to a local hospital. She died just after 3 p.m.

Officer Don Gotthardt, a department spokesman, said police are unlikely to file any charges against the Camry driver. He said the investigation is complete.
