Vienna police arrested the baby sitter of an 11-month old on murder and child abuse charges Monday after the infant suffered fatal injuries in her care last fall.

Police filed charges indicating Carol Lutsky of Summit Manor Court was responsible for the death of the baby, Nehemiah Williams, on July 16. She was arrested on the charges Monday.

On Oct. 5, 2011, police responded to the report of an unresponsive infant on the 1100 block of Lakewood Drive SW. Before officers arrived, Ms. Lutsky took Nehemiah to his biological mother in Reston, Vienna police spokesman Gary Lose said.

The mother then took him to Reston Hospital, Mr. Lose said. He was later transferred to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. because of his deteriorating condition.

Nehemiah died the next day, Oct. 6, 2011.

An autopsy by the District of Columbia Medical Examiner’s officer determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the upper body. Police declined to specify what type of trauma.

After the incident, Ms. Lutsky’s Lakewood Drive residence was deemed uninhabitable by the fire marshall. She was living in Chantilly at the time of arrest.

Ms. Lutsky is being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
