Two people are dead after a fiery collision along the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, but investigators continued to investigate its cause on Sunday.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. Saturday, when a 2009 Dodge heading north in a local lane of I-495 rear-ended a 2010 Chevrolet and lost control. The Dodge then rammed into the back of a tractor-trailer before catching fire.

A Maryland State Police spokeswoman said the driver of the Dodge and front seat passenger were trapped in the car and died, but a back seat passenger was able to escape. The passenger in the Dodge and the truck driver were treated at a hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.

Police have not released any names.

The crash shut down northbound lanes for roughly seven hours.
