MONTREAL (AP) - Quebec officials say Montreal’s Olympic Stadium will be ready to host a large soccer crowd in less than two weeks, despite the collapse of a concrete slab measuring more than 1,000 square feet inside a stadium parking lot.

Tourism Minister Nicole Menard linked the accident to the ongoing expansion of a nearby soccer stadium for the Impact of MLS. But a Montreal civil engineering professor says he finds it hard to believe that work on the stadium would have triggered the collapse.

The Impact are scheduled to play their first games at Olympic Stadium until the nearby Saputo stadium is renovated.

Impact vice-president Richard Legendre confirmed Monday the team’s opener, scheduled for March 17, will still be played at the Olympic Stadium.
