A student at the District’s Winston Education Center was taken to the hospital Friday after another student stabbed her in the eye with a pencil, police said.

The attack arose out of a verbal argument between two female students at the pre-school through eighth grade school.

A Metropolitan Police Department spokesman did not know the age of the girls involved but said the injured girl was taken to the hospital while the other girl was in police custody.

The attack occurred around 11 a.m. inside the school, which is located in the 3100 block of Erie Street in Southeast.
