A collision between a school bus and van early Monday injured eight students and sent both drivers to the hospital, Prince George’s County Police said.

The crash happened at about 8:15 a.m. in the 8300 block of Indian Head Highway, a police spokesman said, when a man driving a white work van rear-ended a school bus destined for Oxon Hill Middle School as it was turning off a service road. Twenty-four students were on the bus.

The van continued to careen into a tree, and images from the scene showed the van with its hood folded around the trunk.

Eight students and their driver were treated for minor injuries at a hospital. The van’s driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the county’s fire department.
