Arlington County police and the Chief Medical Examiner’s office are trying to determine the cause of death for an 87-year-old man.

After Mack L. Wood’s son discovered his father’s body in his home on the 3700 block of North Wakefield Street on Saturday, police could not determine if the man died of natural causes or if he had been killed, said police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

“Because we could not determine the cause at the scene, that’s why we’re saying it’s a suspicious death,” Mr. Sternbeck said.

Homicide detectives began investigating the scene, while the medical examiner’s office started working on an autopsy. Few details could be released on Tuesday, but Mr. Sternbeck said there was not necessarily any evidence of a burglary or another crime at the residence. However, as the investigation is ongoing, there has been police presence at the home at all times.

Mr. Sternbeck said the cause of death is likely to be released on Wednesday.
