Maryland forward James Padgett faces a Friday trial for driving while impaired stemming from a June 16 incident in College Park.

Padgett’s arrest and pending court date was first reported by The Diamondback. He also was charged with failure to display two lighted front lamps when required as part of the incident.

“We are aware of this situation and have no further comment as this is a pending legal matter,” Maryland’s athletic department said in a statement.

Padgett averaged 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds last season, playing in all 32 games for the Terrapins with 27 starts. He is the lone four-year scholarship player in the program this season and will be one of two players (along with coach Mark Turgeon) to represent Maryland at Wednesday’s ACC media day in Charlotte, N.C.
