A man who police believe shot at another man during an argument about a stolen cellphone in August was arrested on a warrant for attempted first-degree murder on Thursday night, officials said.

According to a release from the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department, Jernard Cooke was arrested on the1200 block of Chillum Manor Drive in Hyattsville by deputies on the U.S. Marshals Regional Warrant Task Force.

According to the warrant for Mr. Cooke’s arrest, officials say he displayed a gun and shot at the other man on August 2 on the 2500 block of Arundel Road in Mount Rainier. Police obtained the warrant on Sept. 20.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Mr. Cooke also faces charges of use of a firearm to commit a violent crime, second-degree assault, and having a handgun on his person.
