Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus predicted Sunday that Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson will be a “nonfactor” on Election Day.

“People understand they’re not going to throw their vote away when we’re talking about the future of the country,” Mr. Priebus said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Asked if Mr. Johnson, who ran for the Republican Party’s nomination before accepting the Libertarian nomination earlier this year, might siphon votes away from Republican Mitt Romney, Mr. Priebus said no.

“We don’t have a third-party candidate that’s anywhere near the name recognition or the popularity of Ross Perot or John Anderson,” Mr. Priebus said. “It’s almost a nonfactor.”

Mr. Johnson, a former Republican governor of New Mexico, has called for the legalization of marijuana and dramatic cuts to the military budget.
