The new owners of a remodeled 1997 Colonial in Bethesda’s Bradley Hills neighborhood can enjoy city living in the suburbs thanks to the home’s convenient location. The spacious house is beautifully appointed, with an impressive interior and window-filled exterior.

The stone-and-shingle home is surrounded by mature trees in a lushly landscaped yard. A stone walkway leads to the large front porch with columns, where family members and guests can enjoy mingling in the fresh air. At the end of the street is a walking path leading to downtown Bethesda and the Bethesda Metro.

The home, on the market for $2,150,000, sits on a one-third-acre lot at 5511 Cornish Road.

Inside, a wide foyer separates the living room from the library in the center-hall floor plan. The two-story foyer has a wood staircase with a carpet runner leading to the second level. Wood floors and recessed lights are found throughout most of the main level, including in the formal rooms.

The home has a nice flow for entertaining, as an elegant dining room sits directly behind the living room. This room is highlighted by a chandelier, a wall of small decorative shelves and window-filled walls.

The more casual library would make a great home office or den. It has plantation shutters on the two windows overlooking the front porch and a built-in floor-to-ceiling unit with shelves for books and a row of cabinets beneath.

More extensive walls of built-ins continue into the family room and include a white entertainment center with shelves and cabinetry. The wall opposite the built-ins features a gas fireplace with a black marble surround. The bright open room also has recessed lights, crown molding and a ceiling fan.

The entire back portion of the home is open, blurring the lines between the family room and kitchen. The kitchen, with its white-and-black-speckled granite counter, is a chef’s dream. It comes with professional-grade Wolf and Sub-Zero stainless steel appliances, including a double oven and large refrigerator.

Cabinet space is abundant and fills the top and lower portions of the kitchen walls. A nicely sized center island doubles as a breakfast bar, and there’s another countertop area with room for stools near the breakfast room. The sunny breakfast room overlooks the family room and has patio doors that lead into the yard.

A generously sized screened-in rear porch occupies the back of the home and is ideal for lounging or for overflow space when entertaining. The porch has an outdoorsy feel with earth-tone ceramic tile floors, a high vaulted ceiling with a fan and recessed lights, and walls of windows offering a scenic view of the yard.

The porch leads out onto a raised patio with a built-in grill surrounded by stone and two stone counters. Mature trees and natural landscaping envelop the relaxing patio. An underground sprinkler helps keep the lush lawn green.

There are four bedrooms on the upper level, including two bedrooms with their own full baths. The remaining two bedrooms share a buddy bath.

The oversized master-bedroom suite includes a sitting area, crown molding, recessed lights and plush carpeting. Nearby, the private bathroom has a jetted whirlpool tub set beneath a large window bay.

While two of the bedrooms have walk-in closets, the smallest of the upper-level bedrooms has been converted for use as a large closet area with built-in mirrors and white cabinet organizers.

More space can be found on the finished lower level. In addition to a recreation room, a full bath, and an open office with a long built-in desk and cabinetry, the basement also features a large mirrored exercise room and a bonus room that can be used as nanny’s quarters or a hobby room.
