A hostage situation unfolded in Georgia Wednesday afternoon after a gunman barricaded himself in his home, holding four firefighters captive.

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said five firefighters had responded to a routine medical call in Suwanee, when they were taken hostage by a suspect that wasn’t identified, the Associated Press reports. The gunman released one firefighter to move a fire truck outside.

At about 7:30 p.m. witnesses said they heard several loud explosions, signaling the S.W.A.T. team had entered the suspect’s home. Officials say there were several gunshots exchanged and have confirmed the suspect is deceased.

One officer has been injured with a gunshot wound to the hand. Four others officers were also injured, Fox News reports.
