Authorities with the United Arab Emirates arrested seven suspected members of an al Qaeda cell believed to have been plotting attacks at various UAE sites.

The seven are thought to be Arab nationals, BBC reported.

The group was planning attacks and terrorist action that would have hit at the Gulf nation’s security system, BBC reported. Authorities did not offer more details.

The UAE rooted out what was believed to be a terror cell last December, also. Then, police said those arrested were planning attacks on the Emirates and in Saudi Arabia. And currently, 94 suspect Islamist radicals are on trial in the UAE, accused of plots to overthrow the government, BBC said.
